Harley Quinn Protector of Space Sector 2814 as Green Lantern?
Harley Quinn has been many things, including a Green Lantern and a possessor of a power ring unlike any other.
The DC Universe contains a spectrum of power rings depending on your personal colour preference. Each ring comes with emotional requirements and potential consequences. The green ring runs on willpower, the yellow ring on fear.
Some lanterns have used multiple rings. At one point, Hal Jordan used a green and blue ring together. An impressive combination as the hope of the blue ring is connected to the willpower of the green ring. At one time, Kyle Rayner possessed a ring from every Lantern Corp (but that’s a story for another time).
An unlikely lantern (of any colour) is Harley Quinn. Yet she has been both a green lantern and has a completely different ring.
After a couple of hikers encounter a crash landed alien, they decide to do they only reasonable thing, sell the dead alien’s stuff online. When Harley misses out on buying a Green Lantern ring, she gets an offer on a different ring.
The ring is exactly suited to Harley with her black and red harlequin colours. When she puts on the ring she is posses by the powers of the ring and they enhance her emotions.
In the colour spectrum of rings, the black ring of Nekron fuels destruction and brings death while the red power ring is fuelled by rage. It sounds like just like the combination that is going to bring about the end of the world.
And Harley makes a start at bringing destruction. She starts off small by stopping the police from apprehending some crooks. Then she is getting warmed up. When the crooks don’t want to team up with her for a crime spree, she makes them pay. They make the mistake of underestimating her and she torments them before using her new found power to propel them into a the side of a bridge.
Turning her sights on the entire city of New York, Harley is just about to bring the pain when Green Lantern turns up. An emotional charged and amusing fight ends with Harley challenging Hal to an arm wrestle for the opportunity to destroy the city. Harley is getting a little frisky and appears to be overcoming her rage and destruction with a few emotions directed at Green Lantern’s tight pants. And it’s not even Ryan Reynold playing Green Lantern.
Harley does a decent job of fighting Hal’s willpower. Clearly there is a little more rage and destruction in Harley than there is willpower in Hal.
The arrival of an Azakarian War ship distracts both Harley and Hal. According to Hal, the Azakarians are thieves and killers. And they are after the power rings. When a Harley and Green Lantern gets stopped in its tracks, Harley has to take drastic action to ensure her safety and Hal’s safety (spoiler, she uses Hal’s Green Lantern).
Not only does Harley discover a new power ring combination, she takes on the space killer threat and manages to carry an incapacitated Hal Jordan to safety.
